[Merged] 4.1 Ghz Dual Core Pentium 805 Monster

So there i was just happily browsing the web when i spots this...

A 4.1 GHz Dual Core at £79.95 - Can it be True?
http://tomshardware.co.uk/2006/05/10..._uk/page2.html

So as im a tight Scottish lad who wants to get everything for next to nothing this was irresistable as i need to upgrade my PC.

So to quote from the article above and explain what im about to do:-

Quote:
The bottom line is that the Athlon FX-60 and the Pentium Extreme Edition 965 have both met their match - there's simply no escaping this conclusion! This is bound to cause lamentation among the elite circle of users who've invested big bucks in their high-end systems, if not outright wailing and rending of garments. The basic stats for this insignificant-seeming budget processor read as follows: Pentium D 805 clocked at 2.66 GHz, equipped with two processor cores both with 64 bit support. At your friendly neighbourhood retailer you can pick up this secret weapon for pocket change - right now, for example, it's available at overclockers.co.uk for just £79.95, including VAT. We were quite amazed as the first performance figures emerged from our test labs: stable operation was possible at 4.1 GHz, and without even the need for substantial boosts to cooling!
How could i refuse... So off to Komplett i went and bought one of these bundles. (£216 quid inc delivery)

Essentially its a:-

Intel Pentium D 805 2.66GHz Socket LGA775, 4MB, BOXED w/fan
ABIT AL8-V, Intel 945P, Socket-775, ATX, SATAII, Dual-DDR2, GbLAN, PCI-Ex16
TwinMOS DDR2 PC4300 1024MB Dual Pack KIT w/two matched DDR2 PC4300 512MB CL4

So as this is to upgrade my current PC for a new one for as next to nothing as possible (My 2500+ was getting long in the tooth) i need to also upgrade my GFX card because my overclocked X800 Pro, which has been flashed to an X800XT and had all its pipes opened, forced to 500/500 - is AGP.

So's anyway - Ebay - equivalent PCI card 60 quid or theres about.

Now cooling - i already have water cooling so all i need to do is change the waterblock for the CPU to a compatible one for the 775 chipset. The Thermaltake CPU Water Block, CL-W0010, (subject to change at time of writing) seems to fit the bill at 25 quid (inc delivery).

So thats a top 'o' the range kick ass mofo PC for less than 300 quid IF i can pull this off.

I already have a 500w enermax supply so that should be Ok - and i can flog my existing stuff (like my AGP card and memory) on Ebay so i might get this back down to around 200 quid for the upgrade.

An interesting project don't you think?

Assuming it works... I will keep you uptodate on this one.
