In answer to your question "is the performance equal to wired connection?" then the answer is no, but it's not too bad, and the advantages of being able to surf whilst having a dump, or eating your corn flakes, or sat on the sofa whilst the missus watches a boring film, etc.. etc... etc... far outweigh the slight loss in performance.

It might take a bit of fiddling around with your access point to get the strongest signal - I've always found positioning it as high as possible to be the most effective.
