Latency Issues

Hi, im new to this forum!

I am a telewest customer living in the area of kent suffering from issues with my connection. My usual latency to a London server is roughly 5-20, which is fantastic. Until recently... 150 ms.

I have a Webstar dpx100, connected to a linksys router, (which our two desktops PCs connect to), and a wireless access point for a laptop. We have a 4mb connection, so we are well within the limits.

First I tried connecting directly to the webstar modem without the routers and I still have this problem. So I figured it cannot be that.

Second I rang up tech support, they checked all the values of my webstar to ensure they were within the limits, I then asked them to change my upsteam channel to a quieter one which they did, problem solved! Until my modem lost its connection for no reason, once I reset it, I was back onto the same high latency connection.

I have done this about 15 times, playing games isn't fun with 40-250 ms, its not like constant ping either, it surges and fluctuates alot. Everytime I ring them up to change my upsteam it will reset itself wether its within a week or 2 minutes.

I've read around about people with similiar issues they commented on having a high upsteam power transmit level. I've recorded some of the values which it stays at:

56.50 dBmV <-- 5 minutes later, another crash
54.0 dBmV
53.00 dBmV

Would these be my problem? High upsteam power levels? Is this problem on my end or telewests? I would ask my neighbours if they are having similar problems, but I doubt they even have an internet connection let alone game- since most of them are old. This makes me worry I'm the only person ringing up 5 times a day, they are going to think this is on my end. Usually I get the "there must be spyware on your computer, scan and then ring us again"
OR "Clear your internet cookies", I nearly started laughing when the guy told me to do that.

Someone please help me! :S I can take a screenshot of the webstar page if it helps.

~Note: while typing this my connection went down twice!

~Note2: About a year ago the connection kept dropping like it does now, is this problem just arising again? They sent out a technician to fix our modem, he didn't even come inside because he said there had to be a person over 18, but 12 hours later the issue was magically fixed without them even entering our house. hmm.

Sorry if I didn't make it clear that I am having trouble with gaming. I have run all the speed tests and they all say roughly:

Overall Average Speed = approx 3667 Kbps, 3.58 Mbps

This isn't the problem, its the latency that will surge to stupid ammounts and occasionaly drop.
