Moved house, new modem

Today the NTL engineer came around to install the line into my new home. I had been waiting for this installation to cheekily ask for a new modem, currently using a surfboard 3100 on 10Mb (which can't handle it). No problem, he said.
He asked if I had a pin code from NTL, which I hadn't as I assume that NTL assumed I'd use my existing modem.
He gave me a CD to install and use to register my new modem and to call CS for the pin code (but have spotted it on Robin Walker's site, so don't want to call unless I have to), which I will do when I get home, but I want to do it armed with a bit of info.
Will it give me the option of retaining my current NTL account and email address, or will it force me to create a totally new account. If I have to create a new account can CS point my old email address to my new account?
