First, I would recommend you make sure your Antivirus and Firewall software are up to date.

Then, run a full scan of your computer.

Now, make sure that you have some good anti-spyware software. I personally use AdAware, Spybot, Spyware Blaster and Windows Defender to defend my system. Run a full scan with you Antispyware software.

Now, I am not saying it is spyware, or a virus (I don't personally know of spyware or a virus that would do this), but it is something that it worth eliminating.

It actually sounds like you have a dodgy modem or dodgy connection. If this is the case, you will need to call faults to correct the problem.
