Good info about the ADSL - that sounds like a way to go.
Long shot here: I assume you're moving to a non-ntl area (otherwise you could just move your connection). You could see if you can take NTL's ADSL but have it classed as a move, rather than new contract as you're an NTL customer already. This way you would simply continue your existing contract, and the 12 months would not be an issue.
