Further update. Belkin have now pledged to replace my 7230 router with their F5D7231 G-Plus model, which apparently does not suffer from this locking up problem. I'm going to take them up on this offer. Dabs can take a running jump for now - I'll take my business elsewhere in future.
I just hope that the 7231 really is the solution to this!
