Re: Wireless Internet!

to cable forum

One question... did your son get a laptop PC or a desktop PC? If he got a laptop, look for a wireless router deal with a PCMCIA card included (this is the small credit card sized bit of kit he'll need to connect to the wireless router) whereas if he has a desktop PC then look for one that has a so-called wireless NIC (or network interface card) that will be installed inside his PC - assuming he doesn't already have one included, of course

Alternatively, you could go for a USB wireless network card, which will work in both a laptop or a desktop PC, as it just plugs in to a spare USB socket on the PC.

As for recommendations... like lsainsbury, I can recommend the Linksys WRT54G as being compatible and reliable Maplin were doing a very good offer a couple of months ago, which was the modem and a laptop PCMCIA card for about £60-ish. Ended up buying one for my big Sis, and installing it all for her too
