I'm sure the motivation can be generated soon enough.
All it takes is for the industry to start releasing the much-wanted stuff on a new format, or to reduce the DVD output significantly, and people will be very quick to start buying.
With the 'limited' storage capacity (e.g. DVD vs. hard disk) a new format offering higher data density will always be popular in some circles.
And with the new format, I have no doubt there is even more scope for the industry to thwart the copiers - another likely reason the industry will put it's weight behind it.
