That's really niave, how do you think people will get it offline? NTL doesn't produce the majority of the TV (apart from it will have the stake in UK TV), it is the provider, so either it provides it over existing standards or over IP, either way it is still the provider. You might think that there is more choice when it comes to ISPs, but by the time this all kicks off (and it will be a long time away before you can truely get all TV streaming over the net) then there will be far fewer ISPs as the big boys will of course realised this and have bought them up. NTL has NTL obviously, about to have Telewest and already owns Virgin.net. Sky has just bought / is in the process of buying easynet which owned UKOnline.
Lets think of who's left? Tiscali, AOL, Wanadoo, Pipex, Toucan and of course BT. There are another few who are 2-bit in number and a couple of the ones i have mentioned above are 2-bit in number too. How many of these companies will stay as solo ISPs when the time comes and how many realistically will be able to offer a service with sufficient enough upload/download and with what will essentially be an unlimited services if it's permanent TV over IP.
The big boys arn't stupid, they are the ones who shape what we do, not us them.
