Probably 169.168.2.2 - that is the address a Belkin router will give out to the first machine to connect to it. So, the conenction between the router and the PC is fine. This is your PC's 'LAN' address, within the network formed by your router and PC(s) connected to it. The router's LAN address is 192.168.2.1. What needs to happen of course is for the modem to give the WAN IP address provided by NTL to the Router, but it can't do this if the modem thinks it's still working off the USB port, or if the ethernet port is damaged.
Another thought - you are attaching the modem to the router's WAN port, and not one of the LAN ports, aren't you?
