Re: Major explosion in Hemel Hempstead

Just got back from Oxford - that involved us driving under the plume as it spreads south-west from Hemel. Very noticeable, got some interesting photos of the sun trying to poke weakly through at about 11am, but the motorway was basically smogged (this would be around High Wycombe). Cleared very suddenly a few miles short of Oxford though, where it was clear, apart from the plume being evident to the south.

On the way back, the temperature was all over the shop - started about 6C in Oxford, went up to 8C under the plume and then dropped to 2C almost instantly out the other side, which caused all the windows to mist up. Scary. Presumably heat's getting trapped under the cloud, but it's a really odd thing to see, like a livid bruise across the sky for about 60 miles.
