Im not condoning this activity but if you look here http://www.hyperspacehome.com/hyperwrt/ you can get your same firmware but with increased power output. I did this 2 years ago and it worked fine. I ending up with good signal from very poor. Still didnt totally resolve the problem and eventually i got so fed up with it i ran a cable.

My feeling is that its actually the wireless card and not the router as other people i know have had the same issue with PCI wireless cards. Is it a WMP54G wireless card?
