I may be getting this wrong but there is a difference between a wireless access point and a wireless router. A router I think has dhcp built in to be able to give out a ip address.

I think you'll have to connect the access point to a switch or to a 2nd ethernet point in the computer to get it to work.

Failinmg that where did you buy it from? Will they allow you to exchange it for a wireless router?

If you bought it online you have 10 days or so to exchange anything you bought.
