Just to advise folk that although some people recommend disabling SSID and trying to hide your network there a load more who disagree and say that

a) It adds no security - the SSID is still broadcast as part of certain packets and network sniffers such as NetStumbler(?) can easily find it.

b) If you broadcast the SSID (but also apply appropriate security), your neighbours will easily see which channel you are on and will avoid that number!

c) Not broadcasting the SSID breaks the standard and some PC drivers/ network monitors will drop the connection and try to connect to a neighbour/ alternative signal.
