Lol, there are slight differences between the 7004BR and the 7004ABR (one difference I can remember is that the printer port is uni-directional on the BR model while it is bi-directional on the ABR.)

The router does work with the connection in that it doesn't crash out or anything, I just don't get the full speed that I get if I connect the modem directly to the PC.
