I thought the issue was with the router as there are loads of cracked firmwares around that allow you to increase the power output of the router. Although these did seem to increase the throughput slightly it wasnt that good still. (i also kept losing connecting with MSN Messenger if i left it on a long time)
I wirelessly connected a laptop and has no such issues. Seems to me that Wireless NICS from Linksys are pretty poor, having said that, i've never tried any other make of wireless NIC

I guess ill have a fiddle with the NIC settings :/
I had a fiddle with router & nic settings, it bursts up to 2900kb/s now and stays around 2650kb/s
