What lights are currently lit on your mates SACM? Are they locked or flashing?
really it would help if you could identify the modem in use (label underneath maybe). Also make sure you are powering down the PC and SACM when changing any cables etc and that you power up the modem first before you power up the PC.
If any firewalls are currently running you may want to temporarily disable them. If you power up the devices in the correct order and they still refuse to register then you may have an issue with the modem.
