i'd like some advice too, i've never messed with stuff like this before, is it safe? Should i do it? And what kind of numbers should i put in?

keep mtu at 1500
rwin should be a multiple of mss 64240 is a good value, I use 256960 but to use a value higher then 65000 you need to enable large recieve window, also keep mtu auto discovery enabled.
To set these tweaks drtcp is the easiest tool to use you can google for it.

I dont think a lot of this is due to the network i think its due to the firmware on some of the modems not being able to cope with the 10mb speed.

Keven what did you do to actually get your modem swapped? Almost everyone else who rang up got told they cant have a swap and with me they took it further and downgraded me back to 2mbit because I asked for a new modem.
