with regard to getting taken back to the provisioning screen- in Internet Explorer, go to tools-> internet options-> content (i think) and change the cookie settings to allow first party cookies. Then clear all the temporary internet files and cookies and try browsing again.

2) You might be holding for a long time...
3) I believe the cable modem in the samsung and pace boxes is the same, except in the Samsung there are two processors, compared to the 1 in the pace boxes. If you upgrade to anything higher than 1meg you will need either a Samsung box or a Stand Alone Cable Modem for your connection anyway.
