Set-up is no problem your could even take a picture of the back of your pc and we can tell you if you have rg45 connection or not.
Below is the kit you will require.

Also fair play to the ntl chap/chapess they suggested the correct thing for you

Try one of these they cost £53.30 and will allow you to connect 4 pc's with wires and loads wireless too.



One of these for your sons pc costing £27.41


Total cost £80.71

Or.... the cheaper option...
One of these costing £28.19



with one of these costing £16.44



Total cost £44.63
