Yep that's right. No need for extra cards for the desktop.
All you need is the wireless router.
Plug that between the STB and desktop. Follow the instructions to configure it's wireless. Your desktop continues as normal, and now your lappy can connect wirelessly too. (at least the theory of it being that easy sounds good
)
