Setting up a router with the 250 cable modem
I have just reciently got online with NTL broadband.
I want to use a router so that I can have more than 1 computer connected to the Internet at a time.
I presently have the 250 cable modem plugged directly into my computers ethernet port. I had to install the disk software that came with the modem to be able to get connected. I have tried to plug the modem into a router and then connect from the router to my machine, but this did not work. I am unsure about how to work with NTL settings, as I seem to have an unusual IP address:
81.110.253.x (I'm not handing out the last number just in case some wise guy wants to get onto my machine).
So, how can I set the router up to get and IP address from NTL and use this with NAT or ICS to share the connection with another computer?
I am worried that the NTL software has directed that the IP address has to be given to the network card of my machine and cant be shared.
