I'd pack the ADSL router up carefully and take it back for a full refund (if you get any hassle then tell them you were badly advised to buy it by their staff).

Then go over to Comet because they are having a deal on at the moment:
Linksys wireless G Router (DSL - which is what you need) and a laptop wireless card all for only ÃƒÆ’Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â£49.

EDIT: oh I see you meant part of a bundle with a laptop computer. Damn.
