Re: Connecting laptop to cable modem instead of desktop

you will need to install the drivers for the cable modem on the laptop.

Insert your ntl broadband installer, but don't run the software.

Then disconnect the modem from the pc and unplug the power for 30 seconds. When the power comes back on and sync and rdy go solid, plug into the laptop. Follow the driver installation wizard, and if necessary, point it to x:/drivers/ambit/ (where x is your cd drive) to find the driver files.

This will then setup for the broadband. To make sure you can still dial up, open internet explorer, and go to tools-> internet options-> connections-> and chose "dial whenever a network connection is not present". Select ok.

This should mean that now, when the cable modem is connected it will use it, but the rest of the time will prompt you to use the dial up connection.
