The process of having a child staemented is very difficult and takes years to get the statement.

Each child has to be observed without them knowing its happening. Part of the process is

If an assessment goes ahead, the LEA will ask a number of people to give their views on the child. They will ask for advice from:

* the childââ‚ƚ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s school
* an educational psychologist
* a doctor
* social services (who will only give advice if they know the child)
* anyone else whose advice the LEA think is appropriate

Parents can attend any interview, medical or other test during the assessment. You know your child best so your views are important. What your child thinks also plays a big part in the assessment.

You should feel free to suggest any other people or organisations you know whose views may be helpful. The LEA should then ask for these views and take them into account as part of the assessment. You may want to think about asking:

After all this the LEA and all who have assessed the child have a meeting and decide what level of statement if at all.
