Jefferies 3rd Annual Communications & Media Conference

I have just listened to the webcast and I have picked out the following as interesting points:
  • Some areas will never be upgraded to digital due to technical reasons
  • London upgrades were taking place as we speak
  • This time next year the network should be 96/97% digital
  • The economics have never worked out in the past to force people off analogue
  • Cheaper STB pricing and netwok economics will come to a point where forced migration will occur, most likely some point next year and into 07 - this will be at the cost of increased churn
  • A PVR is planned for Q2 2006 and it WILL be HDTV ready
  • They have an HDTV plan in place and that will be starting next year into 07
  • Need a mobility option - looking at the service BT will offer combining a landline with a mobile perhaps through wi-fi technology - field trials are taking place with this
  • A new range of packages will be launched to reward people (more savings) more, the more of the services they take - they will not be a time limit on these
  • Loyalty will be rewarded which will be consistant across time and packages
  • Trials of some of the new packages will take place in selected regions next month
  • Longer standing customers will take advantage of the new packages as well as one-off freebies such as an engineer coming out to do a health check on your system and perhaps doings some free upgrades to your equipment - this is someway off and they were just boucning ideas off people in the audience of the conference
A presentation of this conference is available here: http://www.ntl.com/locales/gb/en/inv...0-%20FINAL.pdf
