Re: ntl Confirms 10Mb Broadband Speed Increase
There would be no price reduction, there isn't a lot more you getting for your money. Currently have 2mbit burst with a soft 30gig cap, we are moving onto higher burst with higher cap which at some point will have to be enforced to make it viable.
As speeds go up contention issues become more apperent and people also realise that unless they download large files or run a netcafe or something the extra speed is just a number and doesnt do a lot for them. Users also will hit a limit with us servers and other servers that have perhaps max 10mbit of bandwidth as they wont be able to send fast enough. I think the uk in the last year or so has suddenly hit a speed craze where the isps have to take something back with the other hand.
In case of demon internet the isp rolled out a free 2mbit upgrade, before the upgrade user's had a steady 512kbit connection with reliable pings and after the upgrade peak time is a nightmare for pings and they have speed lower then their previous 512kbit. Plusnet also after overcrowding with 2mbit users and trying to prepare for 8mbit rollout have got themselves in a jam with their traffic management policies.
