Becuase the only other alternative leave me to conclude that he was told but PURPOSEFULLY elected to act in breach of both the law and direct instructions from his employers.

And either way ntl is still responsible for his actions whilst he is on company business. And I agree, BTW, this loose cannon
should be reported to the company to try and make sure that no-one else acts in this manner and he is dealt with accordingly.
