I have set up another account from within Outlook (Tools --> Accounts) and set up the POP and SMTP servers as pop.ntlworld.com and smtp.ntlworld.com respectively and can receive email into Outlook from my @ntlworld email account but I can't send email - no error messages appear other than the normal pop box telling me it is receiving mail but no sending mail message.
Can anyone shed any light on this for me please?
Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure, cave_troll, I don't use ntl's email services and nltworld.com doesn't seem to be working ATM, but I believe you may need to set your email client to use your username and password for sending as well as receiving your email, now.
For a Freeserve account, you may still need to set your SMTP server to ntl if you're connecting through an ntl account; many ISPs' SMTP servers won't accept connections from IP ranges outside their customer base.

Could be, David; I can't access the ntlworld.com site, ping times to that and their POP server are poor, and pings to their SMTP server timeout half the time.
Not my problem! ;-P
