House move service a disaster...

Where to start? I moved house at the end of May. First appointment (the earliest being 2 weeks after our move) for installation was ignored. Second appointment was late. It was impossible to configure broadband as we'd had no correspondence from NTL - we discovered a week later upon receipt of paperwork that my surname had been totally misspelt. Second 'phone point wasn't installed, as promised. I was given a temporary phone number.

I called NTL in mid-June and requested for my original phone number to be connected. I was assured this would happen within 10 days. I'm still waiting, after repeated phonecalls and letters.

I refused to pay my bill until a) I received a refund for the period which my broadband was not connected, b) I received a refund for the period which my telephone was not connected, and c) I received my original telephone number back, plus refund of line rental for the time I have been without my original telephone number, and d) I then received a revised bill.

I received everything but the last two points. My telephone services were restricted two weeks ago, before I received the bill which included my refunds. I then cancelled my telephone service, writing to NTL stating I'd pay everything but my line rental, as they had failed to reconnect my original phone number as repeately asked. I now have no landline telephone, just NTL broadband.

Today I received a letter stating my services were about to be cut off, and I would be taken to court if I did not pay my outstanding bill. I have paid the majority of the bill, but refuse to pay for telephone line rental, when, after repeated calls and letters, staff at NTL totally ignored my requests to reconnect my original telephone number. Am I going to now end up with a bad credit rating, solely due to my refusal to pay for substandard service?

Is there anything else I can do? I've already sent copies of my letters to Trading Standards and OfCom...

- - rant over - - ahem, sorry
