The problem with that is getting a network (IP) address. Whatever plugs into the STB has to get an IP address using the DHCP protocol. A cable router is designed to get an IP address on its 'WAN' port. If you just plug the STB into one of the four LAN ports on your router it will try to GIVE a DHCP IP address not GET an IP address! So even if you disable the ADSL modem, no ADSL router, afaik, has the ability to get an IP address from a CM/STB.
Sorry, but it's going to have to be a shiny new cable router!
