Does anyone have any stats/ideas on how much online "gaming" contributes to one's max download limit per month?
On a side note...
I'm welcoming the 10mps with open arms as it's significantly faster than my current ntl 3mbs. But am *really* looking forward to some nice upload increase as well. Mainly cos I play online games, at the moment it's BF2. And I usually host a Skype session between mates to chat during the game (we dont like the ingame voip and prefer the easy of skype).
However, hosting a 4+ conference on Skype simply kills the current upload bandwidth while playing BF2. So, according to the BBc link, if NTL is doing this in response to the increased demand for high capacity online multimedia usage, (listed was voip) I assume they have taken into account the need for higher upload speed and not just killer downloads...

For a Start Skype Uses 4K Per Person, so if 1 to 1 chat with a person you will both be using 4K Each. As you host a Conference, the person doing so takes the BRUNT of the Upload and add 4K per person you bring in, so if there is 3 of you chatting away, that 8K you have lost straight away. Imagine 5 of you (the Max), thats 16K - you have sort of used up all your bandwidth if you are on 2mbit/200 for example.
Upload has always been the one they will not upgrade much as the Majority of the people will not use it - I cannot imagine they will be giving 10mbit/1Mbit - but if they do I will be very happy indeed
