I'll give you that one.
As I understand it, it's if the ball hits *a* helmet that's been left on the field (or, possibly, any other piece of equipment that's not currently in use) then five extras are awarded.
I can't find anything to confirm that there are extras for throwing your hat at the ball, although that could possibly technically come under the above.
