An "ebay" modem won't work.

I'd call telewest. I doubt that the modems they now use are worth anything near ÃƒÆ’Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â£200 (the ones ntl now use are, I think, worth less than a tenth of that!).
