For the record, I've read all of the books (apart from the new one). Whilst they're not stunning in a literary sense, they are (nonetheless) good fun - and a fairly easily absorbed diversion.

You do not have to read the whole thing to make a '
judgement' or
'informed opinion' on the book. That's why they have a brief synopsis of a book, either on the back cover or inside front cover.
