By the way, I have found the HP user forum to be poor, but their tech helpline is very good once you get through the menu system.

The pointed me at a ROM upgrade. After I did this I find that the unit works except that the on/off switch is operating in an inconsistent manner, and although I can access my CF cards, I still get the error message.

They now suggest I send it in foir repair.but the cost is ÃƒÆ’Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â£200!! So I might as well soldier on.

My guess is that I have a file corrupted somewhere!
