Those big blue and white blocks are Grayhill opto-isolated I/O modules. The blue ones convert 4-20mA into a TTL signal with a freq of 14.4 to 72kHz. The white ones are digital inputs.

AFAIK, JCB don't make anything this big. But you're in the right area - it's on a piling rig. Here's me on a repair job in Ireland. As it happens, I was chasing a fault that was created by water (although most of it was, by now, ice) which had caused corrosion in a connector that was 'conveniently' placed (not by me) in the middle of the mast.
