Retentions is their for people who are really considering moving not to try and get cheaper services.
If you look at my post history I had asked about alternatives and had serious thoughts of changing suppliers because I could get more for my money elsewhere, now NTL can match it I am a happy customer

Except ntl
didn't 'match' what you could get elsewhere because they didn't insist on a 12 month contract.
ntl only have themselves to blame for all their issues, they really do.
