Re: Connection problems

to Cable Forum

Canyou confirm if your broadband is via a Set Top Box (STB) or Cable Modem (CM). You have completely swithced off your STB/CM, router and all PCs after having plugged it all in together, and then rebooted?

The errors you post suggest it is your email client that is not connecting. Can you confirm you can access the internet using internet explorer?

Assuming you have no access to any broadband service, a couple of troubleshooting things to try.

Firstly if you disconnect one PC from the network router and connect it direct to the CM/STB, power down the CM/STB and PC then restart, do you get a connection and can you then use IE on that one PC? If you can get a connection we know your broadband is working OK and can then start to look at your network setup.

If you are using a STB you will need to register the router as the computer that connects to the broadband network. It can be easier to "spoof" (copy) the MAC address of the PC you already have registered with ntl from the first days you set up broadband, than to register the new router's identity. Your router manual should tell you how to do this spoofing.
