It's plaininly impossible, otherwise we would have some evidence of it. If time travel were to become possible at any stage of the existence of the human race, I think we know enough about human nature to conclude that history would be destroyed by tourists, prospectors and treasure hunters.
As a concept, it has no application beyond the telling of ripping yarns on BBC1 each Saturday night.
