Re: Whatever happened to...

It comes from the old (CR2) software that was used in Bromley areas. Until the last revision, whenever you pressed the text button on the remote, the box would bring up a window saying, "Digital Text is coming soon....", although to be fair to NTL, that software was actually designed by CWC.

Interestingly, even the very latest Telewest software comes with a "Digital Text is coming soon" message....

Well there are 17,000 customers in Glasgow, and I would guess that the Cardiff and Swansea franchise isn't any smaller. And Nottingham is scheduled to go Any Day Now.

ntl state VoD will be launching in three additional markets during the summer and expect to be in a total of 10 markets by year end.
This is, however, pretty disappointing, at least if we assume that markets=franchises. A total of 10 by the end of the year is only a quarter of the total number of franchises operated by NTL.

On the other hand, it may be like the broadband rollout, where smaller areas are installed at the same time. For example, Poole/Bournemouth, Southampton/Winchester and Portsmouth/Southsea are three different franchises, but all had broadband installed at the same time -- they could possibly be regarded as one "market".

Assuming the merger goes through in the next couple of months, it will be interesting to see whether this affects VOD rollout, too. NTL are a fair bit ahead of Telewest in terms of both the VOD software and getting the hardware installed -- will they divert resources into trying to get TW up to the same standard quickly?
