Re-Install, SATA and IDE

I need to reinstall my PC as it has got to the slow and cruddy stage.

I have a ghost image of it on my drive and would normally re image.

However I have bought a new 160GB SATA hard drive and my original one is IDE. After a bit of research I discovered that you have to do the following.

1) setup raid on new SATA drive
2) create partitions with partition magic
3) copy image
4) Repair the installion using the 2nd repair option in XP setup. After install 3rd party raid drivers
5) Reboot

I have done this and as the system boots it gets to the initial log in screen and just sits there. What would be happening..?

Is the repair enough? Need the original image have to been aware of SATA before I imaged it? I can't remember whether it was. I did have an old SATA running as a none system disk before but can't remember whether it was before I imaged it or not....

THanks
