Mine came absolutely pristine. I must have looked over it for 5-10 mins looking for any scratch. I got in the US though, they might have a different policy, which would mean replacing scratched cases. I didn't save 45% though. I only saved about 20%, but that includes the AppleCare.

If you get a refurb, you should really get AppleCare to be safe.
