They sell Apples in PC World, so why not wander in there and have a play with one?
And about the cost, it is worth considering the refurbished models. (I had to to be able to afford what I wanted, argh, lets not go there again...), but its not to shabby. It looked great, works fine so far, and more importantly, you can still get AppleCare on refurbs so you are covered if it does break.
