Al-Qaeda "poisoner" gets life in prison

I read in today's press that the chap who was found with the Ricin in his flat in Wood Green was given 17 years; he has already been given a life term for murdering one of the PCs who tried to arrest him.

I am going out on a limb here, as there will be the inevitable outpourings from the "human rights" brigade, but am I alone in thinking that this is one case where the death penalty would have been the best thing? Otherwise his life sentence, and the concurrent 17 year term, will no doubt mean he will be back on the streets at some stage, and free to start over again.

Alternatively, what are the chances of his evental deportation? (I read that he was an illegal immigrant - maybe that can be confirmed or denied?)
