Yesterday Morning called the tech supp dept. they talked me thru the process of registering and the pc is now up and running. Installed the Norton AV and then downloaded and installed Spybot, Ad-Aware and Spywareblaster.
It would appear that the NTL tech supp dept are far more on the ball than this forum, which didnt even bother to reply to a noob asking for assistance.

that is probably because ntl tech support are paid to help people... and everyone on this forum helps in their spare time and receives no payment or reward for doing so....
