Hmmm. Interesting point. A friend of mine, who is also on the £20 bought your own modem deal, just upgraded successfully on the online upgrade page. And he lives around the corner. And he didn't get a confirmation letter. So forget the original quote on this thread about being on different offers cocks it up. Plus I have a router and have unplugged it, reset everything, plugged directly into the PC etc, and it still gives the same error.
The only difference is that his original modem bust, so he had a new NTL modem installed. Whereas mine is the original Motorola Surfboard effort. Also, about a year ago or so, I phoned NTL with a query and the bloke reckoned I was not properly registered (and would lose my connection any minute - it didn't happen), even though I'd used broadband with NTL for years. So he went through the whole process of registering me etc. Perhaps he cocked it up? He didn't sound particularly clued up. He even said he had ADSL himself, as he preferred it. Not getting into Sales then eh? Any other reason why the online upgrade doesn't recognise me? (It gets pass the password etc, just fails and says "
Error looking up cable modem details". Hmmm, and note that it then shows some details, but the labels for surname and postcode are interestingly blank.
Can anyone help me? That virtual pint is turning into a virtual 4 pack of Guiness....
Failing that, does *anyone* have any idea of when NTL are going to officially automatically upgrade the speeds? I mean I don't know if CS knows or not, as they seem as slippery as politians (don't actually answer you). That or they don't actually understand you. The last one sounded less confident in English than our new local Chinese phone girl (and I'm Welsh, so I should know). Don't order the curry. You get something different. If she can understand your door number. Luckily I order from there quite a lot.... But surely approx dates are out by now, as it seems I have been relegated to Indian call centre hell. Bit annoying considering I used it from the beginning, and now I have friends upgrading to 2Mbit who have been with NTL for like 3 months. Grrr

At least they pick up the phones quickly now (compared to 20 minute waits before).
Cheers
