If you cant access the email address - and you should be able to as long as the mailbox is still there andthe user detaisl remain the same - then it would appear that ntl: have killed the mail account. However tehy reserve the email address in case you want to return at some point. This is normally for about six months. Call tech support and ask them about getting teh addy freed up for u to use again.
