I have a 9 and 10 year old and they have way less freedom than I had simply because there are fewer places for them to play which are accessible and safe. But they are still allowed out of my sight - as long as I know where they are and they know the boundaries - but whatever you can't keep your eyes on them all the time. As for the kid in question it's almost a there but the grace of God go I with me as I used to get into all the usual scrapes and fights. At the end of the day this kid was just trying to get his ball back, not mug an old lady. Not saying the level of compo was right in the grand scheme of things, but he was just a nipper and nippers need protecting from themselves (and it's not a nipper's fault if his parents aren't up to much).

So he fell 40 feet whilst getting his ball back!
I think the payment was too small, if he could kick a ball onto a roof 40ft up at the age of 9 he could of been playing for England now.
